Playing the Long Game

Dear colleagues,

🤔 Who made the rule that we must work exactly 40 years?

This cookie-cutter timeline – twenties to sixties – has become our unquestioned reality. But here's the plot twist: we're living longer, staying sharper, and witnessing entire industries emerge overnight. Doesn't this deserve a fresh perspective?

Think about it. Many of us will thrive well into our 80s and 90s, minds buzzing with ideas and energy to contribute. Meanwhile, AI, blockchain, and technologies we haven't even imagined are creating opportunities daily. Still think that a rigid 40-year plan makes sense?

Let's flip the script. What if your career was more like a Netflix series with multiple seasons? Season 1: Corporate experience. Season 2: Startup adventurer. Season 3: Digital nomad. Season 4: Industry mentor. Bonus season: Social impact pioneer at 70+. The possibilities are endless.

Maybe it's time to put "retirement" itself into retirement. Instead of sprinting toward an imaginary finish line, let's build careers that energize us. Work hard when inspiration strikes, pause when you need to recharge, and pivot when opportunity knocks.

Your career shouldn't be a marathon with a fixed endpoint – it's your unique story to write. The future rewards those bold enough to tear up the traditional timeline and create their own rules.

Breaking boundaries,

Ivy
